      • The first beta of iPhone 3.0 wasn't fit for everyday use, but for me, beta 2 is solid enough. And there's even more reason to go for it: You can use MMS! It's easy. This is the method that has worked for us—if you know of any shortcuts or another way to enable MMS, let us know in the comments. What You'll Need • iPhone 3G running OS 3.0 • Another AT&T phone (non-iPhone) • This carrier file • SIM ejector tool (or paperclip) Prep Your iPhone 1. Download the carrier file . 2.…
        • Learning a language can be difficult, by MyWords from Innovative Language Learning attempts to make the process fun and effective. This Chinese app -- one of 37 languages offered by the developer -- is a particularly helpful learning tool.
          • Sometime during yesterday evening, Apple released three brand spanking new iPhone commercials that showcase applications that have a common theme. Apple has aired these commercials in the past with great success. Not only does it allow Apple to showcase just how useful the iPhone can be, but it also gives developers free advertising. Since there [...]
            • Symbian is the planet's most popular smartphone OS—everywhere except the US, that is. It's also arguably the most boring. In this last, most urgent installment of the cellphone revitalization series, we alleviate your Symbian shame. Symbian's dominance isn't evident here in the US, as it's driven by smartphones—like Nokia's N series or Sony Ericsson's P Series—that don't really have much of a market/mindshare outside of Europe. We've even gone so far as to declare…
              • VeriSign has released VIP (VeriSign Identity Protection) Access for Mobile ( iTunes Link ), a free app that lets you supplement typical user Web site log-ins with an extra, cryptographically strong ID confirmation. Popular sites such as eBay, AOL, GEICO, and PayPal all support the app, which is currently only available for the iPhone. What is VIP Access for Mobile? VIP Access for Mobile works by creating credentials tied to your iPhone. These credentials are based on your phone number and confirmed via SMS…
              • Not that we needed much more evidence that 2009 would be the year 'o PSP rumors, but Pocket Gamer is now reporting that it has heard from an "insider source" who says that the PSP2 will indeed be released before Christmas of this year. That source, who's supposedly a "developer working on the new hardware," also backs up some of the earlier rumors about the design of the device itself, saying that it will be more like the iPhone than the current PSP, and that it will boast a…
                • Ever since developers have gotten their mitts on the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware we have seen some fairly positive evidence that the next-gen iPhone will contain video recording capabilities among a few other goodies. Today MacRumors has uncovered nearly absolute evidence that the next-gen iPhone will be able to record video.

                  • Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Gaming , Developer , iPhone , App Store , iPod touch This is only slightly Mac-related but it is really cool. We've posted about two of Illusion Labs ' popular iPhone games here on the site: Touchgrind is a 3D simulation of a touchboard, and Sway is a really fun little platformer-esque swingathon that has you swinging from side-to-side using the touchscreen. Both games are pretty original in how they use multitouch controls, and so when Illusion Labs got their…
                    • Illusion Labs has done some amazing things with the iPhone’s multi-touch controls in their games. Both Sway and Touchgrind utilize multi-touch in ways few developers have, so it comes as no surprise that Illusion Labs decided to take both of these games to a whole different level.
Now, this isn’t necessarily iPhone specific news as both games have [...]
                      • Some people who have not yet delved into the jailbreaking experience are asking “Why would I want to jailbreak my phone?”. For these people I have put together my top 5 must have jailbreak apps. The following apps are only available to those who have jailbroken their phone, and will likely never been seen in [...]
                        • If you’re looking to jailbreak your 3.0 firmware there is an option out there. It only works for PCs right now because it uses quickpwn. It also doesn’t install Cydia, but RipDev’s Icy. I’m gonna test it out and let you know how it goes. If anyone else has tried it, let us know. Here’s [...]
                          • Ok, so I’ve been inspired by recent news articles of people writing iPhone apps and retiring at the age of 25. I figured I might as well try it out. First I’ll give you some background on what I already know, which isn’t a ton. I started programming basic when I was between 5 and [...]

Not only does it give you the current time for pretty much any city in the world, it also lets you know what time the sun rises and sets,…
                                • Developers have had the iPhone OS 3.0 beta for nearly a month now and are continuing to uncover new features. Initially reported by TAUW and AppleInsider, a few of these features hint at Apple's next iPhone hardware revision. Reports are that the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware beta now includes driver support for a new Broadcom Wi-Fi chip that might support high-speed 802.11n Wi-Fi and improved support for 5 Ghz Wi-Fi networks--a logical step for Apple, since this feature would improve compatibility between the…

After some digging around, 9to5 Mac has discovered that the new chip has the ability receive information over FM radio frequencies, but can potentially be used to send them as well. One possible use for this could be broadcasting music into a car stereo without the need for an external adapter. It could also be used to receive FM broadcasts on the iPhone.
                                      • The Russian hacker Vortex has recently announced an unofficial QuickPwn to jailbreak the iPhone 3.0 Beta 2. The process of jailbreaking is just the same as other QuickPwns. Unfortunately, this only installs Icy, not Cydia. Once you’ve finished the jailbreak and have gotten OpenSSH on it through Icy, you could manually install Cydia on it [...]
                                        • We know they don’t like it, since they recently took steps to try and make it illegal, but now Apple is letting developers know directly that they won’t stand for any jailbreaking funny business on their part, either. The news from Ars Technica comes via changes to the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement, which is part [...] Related Posts GigaOM: PhoneGap Seeks to Bridge the Gap Between Mobile App Platforms GigaOM: iPhone 3.0 Revs Up Apple Payments Systems TheAppleBlog: Crackulous Defeats App…

                                          • We already know it is dangerous. Jailbreaking, assisting in jailbreaking, developing and distributing jailbreak apps are among the things that the latest revision of that agreement does not condone which isn't really a surprise. The governing "iPhone Developer Program License Agreement" has been updated where Apple forbids the creation of apps that violate privacy, facilitate crimes, [...]
