iPhone News Of The Day [05/17/09]

  • iPhone app Email ‘n Walk developed by Phase2 Media is focused on a simple requirement, ‘facilitate e-mail writing while you walk’. Interestingly, the idea started off as an April Fool's day iPhone app that lets you see where you're going. I personally think it’s a very clever use of iPhone's...
  • Filed under: Productivity , iPhone , App Review Being a productivity nerd who happens to love technology has its benefits. Those of us who are happy to spend a Friday night creating and destroying a list of tasks have absolutely no shortage of quality applications upon which to practice and hone our weirdo craft. For web-based task management there's the popular and venerable Backpack by 37Signals which, up until very recently, was in bad need of an equally awesome representation on our iPhones.…
  • Analyst, Yair Reiner of Oppenheimer, who visited Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, CA last week had something interesting to report based on his discussion with Apple's management. According to Apple's management: "iPhone is still in its early days and could gain share by: providing more functionality; lowering prices; growing geographically; or...
  • Filed under: TUAW Business , Podcasts Last week, both Mikes (Rose & Schramm) joined Steve, Kelly and the gang as they talked Mother's Day and Macdom (with a special visit from The Mac Mommy herself). You can download the show from Talkshoe or subscribe in iTunes. I've been sidelined the last couple of weeks thanks to some stormy weather and an ear infection, but I'm back tonight and will be filling in for regular host, Michael Rose . Hopefully some other TUAW comrades will join me and…
  • This intrepid young lad has fashioned himself a robot that's powered by an iPod touch, his incessant prodding, and some light but strangely out of place background music. As you'll see in the video, the touch interface controls the arms and legs, and even turns the head from side-to-side. It's kind of a dumb robot though, so there's no worry just yet that this thing's taking anything over anytime soon. [ YouTube - Thanks, Steve]
    • Oh No! will look instantly familiar to you. Created by Oasys Mobile Games, let's just say the game it mimics involves 4 colors, wild cards, and rhymes with....um..."schmUno." Thaaat's right! It's Uno by another name, with a few minor changes for legal reasons. If you're price conscious, this app may be a decent substitute for its name-brand rival, but you get less than what you pay for (sad, considering the app is 99 cents). Still, the gist of UNO (or crazy eights if you'd…

        • If there is one weakness that the iPhone has right now, it has to be the ability to allow other processes to run in the background. Understandably, the iPhone is not expected to perform in the same way that PCs and notebooks can, allowing other processes to run while the main app is on the [...]

                • Here is a great app that parents are bound to want. The iPhone app is the BabyPhone Deluxe, a software that assists parents in monitoring their toddlers. It takes the pain of having to monitor what a baby is doing or when he awakens, alerting parents on what is happening even though they are not [...]
                  • This new iPhone app may well be called the crowd control software, especially if you have a rowdy crowd who just will not listen. The app is the Sound Grenade which incidentally became a hit when it was downloaded over 2 million times.
Sound Grenade from High Gloss Software is one of the most annoying apps [...]

                    • What could these strange new Best Buy bound phones be? No one knows for sure, but since this is the Internet, when all else fails, just say "iPhone" and watch the chatter begin. That's what Phonearena's Best Buy tipster is saying anyway. The evidence? Wishful thinking and another infamous Best Buy inventory screen. That the supplier is AT&T lends some credibility to the rumor, but not much. This could be a new line of Peanuts kid phones, for all we know. Argh. [ Phonearena ]
                      • Developer Kris Lau never claimed that ZombieTown would reinvent the zombie killing genre, he simply set out to make the most entertaining and graphically unique game he could possibly make. Thanks to the artwork done by James Silva, the creator of the hit Xbox Live Arcade game The Dishwasher, that mission has been fully accomplished. ZombieTown: [...]
                        • Anyone who lives in the Washington, DC area and commutes to work using the subway knows that when it comes to being able to use their cell phones underground, unless your service provider is Verizon Wireless, you won’t have any signal. That’s because the agency that runs the Metro system has had an exclusive agreement [...]
                          • Glyph is an excellent puzzle game developed by Sandlot Games and ported to the iphone by Binoteq. The game features two modes, Quest and Action, both of which offer hours of entertainment. As the player chains three or more like-colored stones together and selects them for destruction, they release energy to break through the rock below. Break through the proper rocks and you will release the captured glyph fragment and progress to the next level. Collect fragments, piece together glyphs, and restore the…

We suppose it's fitting for somebody who's been playing with touchscreens since before most of us knew how to spell "technology," though it's really too bad she can't enjoy her daily The Price Is Right fix without hunting down a WiFi…

                              • Whether it be case materials and design, native iPhone app development , or video support on the iPod , Apple's not a company to apologize for drastically (and suddenly) changing course. Strategically that's to the company's benefit, since it keeps the competition guessing; for consumers, though, it's a nightmare trying to figure out whether the device you buy today will be dismissed as passé in a heavily-liveblogged Jobs or Schiller press conference the next week. iPhone OS versions 2.0…

The APPera has a very good review up of a photo editing and painting app called PhotoForge – which sounds like a sort of ‘Photoshop Mobile’ for those who have the know-how to do some slick photo manipulation on the iPhone.

                                • Business Insider reported couple of days back that as per their sources, Apple is seriously evaluating the option of allowing third party iPhone apps to run in the background, a feature that the iPhone lacks but one that is already available in some smartphones such as T-Mobile G1, upcoming Palm...
