    • The Palm Pre. It's not just a phone, it's a myth, an idea, possibly a legacy... and a really, really long time coming. It's almost impossible to believe, but the crew at Engadget has been talking about a Linux-based Palm phone since way back in 2004 . Through the now-distant years that followed, we were speculating, pontificating, and wishfully-thinking about a new device from a company that we'd come to expect innovation from. But we waited. And waited. And waited. We waited so long, in…
    • (Credit: CNET/Screenshot by Jessica Dolcourt) The problem with statistics is that it's too easy to jigger data down to numbers that prove in the end how quickly the exercise can resemble art as much as science. Take the latest stats regarding Opera's mobile performance, for instance. StatCounter's Tuesday graph showed proof of Opera's climb above the iPhone's Safari browser for the month of May. Yet the claim that "Opera took 24.6 percent of the worldwide market compared to 22.3…
      • A new spy shot claiming to show the next-generation iPhone has emerged, and it appears to show a forward-facing camera.
If the spyshot does indeed show the new iPhone, a forward-facing camera would be a cool but surprising feature. Although high on many iPhone users’ wishlists — it would enable iChat videoconferencing from anywhere — the [...] This article is copyright Cultomedia Corp .
        • It's here. One last effort. A slow, but firm, shove of the chips. All in. Palm's only hope to save a company once synonymous with smart handheld devices: the Pre. Their eyebrow raised, daring you to call. They flip. Full house. Respectable. Decent. Impressive even. But not the highest hand. That's not to say that the phone isn't good, because it is. The software has quite a few interesting innovations that push the concepts of what people can do with smartphones, like Google Android when it…
          • Word has it that Rogers Wireless will be offering a new 15GB data package for the iPhone 3G in Canada starting June 16. Not surprisingly, it won't be cheap. It will cost $150/month, with 1 cent for each additional megabyte of data used. It will be available for monthly and 1, 2, or 3-year contracts. It's also hugely overpriced, given their current 6GB plan is just $30/month. The information has yet to be confirmed.

            • WorldMate , the popular travel planning and organizational service, has expanded its mobile reach onto the iPhone. The two different versions of the app, which were released late Tuesday night ( one free , and a premium version that costs a hefty $19.99), give travelers tools to create and track travel itineraries including flights, hotel reservations, rental cars, and any appointments along the way. The two versions of the app offer identical functionality for core parts of WorldMate's service, like a…
              • Filed under: Gaming , Software , iPhone , iPod touch I love iPhone games. Zen Bound , Frenzic and Peggle are among my favorites. Each feels right on the phone, from the utilization of the touch screen to the graphics and sound. Best of all, there's no definitive end, so I can continue to play for as long as I like. Earlier this week, they were all knocked down a peg as Parachute Panic [ App Store link ] became my favorite. It's part Defender , part SketchFighter 4000 Alpha and a lot of fun. The…

AppleInsider reports that the strings, found inside the iTunes application bundle, include a variety of alerts for Nike + iPhone integration—such as “Do you want to automatically send your…
                  • Strings of code have been found in the new iTunes 8.2 released earlier this week revealing new radio tagging capabilities that would offer a way to buy tagged songs in iTunes running on the desktop. While this could be a sign of FM radio capabilities in a future iPhone, it could also just be for use with an app that works when the iPhone is plugged into a radio-enabled device.

                            • A few interesting new features in iPhone OS 3.0 have been discovered that may allow users to actually share apps they like with friends so they can try it out. If true, the feature could greatly change the way people buy apps. A few apps in the App Store right now have a built-in button to "Tell a Friend", but aside from showing it to them in person, there's no way for them to see how great that app is.
